Fees & Rebates FOR INDIVIDUAL PAYERS

Fees for consultation

As of 1 July 2024 the Australian Psychological Society recommended fee for a 46-60 minute consultation is $311. However Peacemaker Psychology supports improving accessibility to psychological services and as of 1 July 2024 the cost of a consultation (50-60 minutes) for individual payers is:

  • Telehealth $185 (after Medicare rebate of $96.65, gap is $88.35).
  • Mobile $210 (after Medicare rebate of $121.35, gap is is $88.65).

This fee includes assessments relevant to treatment planning, as well as reporting to meet Medicare requirements.

Fees for other services

Other services include case conferencing, report preparation, and letter/email writing to stakeholders (e.g., schools, employers, Centrelink). As of 1 July 2024 the Australian Psychological Society recommended fees for these services start at $86 for 1-15 minutes. Peacemaker Psychology charges individual payers of other services a pro rata amount of the hourly rate of $185. For example, a letter that takes 30 minutes to create will cost half of the hourly rate, $92.50.

Medicare rebates

The cost to you could be reduced through a Medicare rebate. You are able to claim a Medicare rebate if you have a referral from:

  • your GP with a mental health plan,
  • a medical practitioner under a shared care plan,
  • a medical practitioner under a referred psychiatrist assessment and management plan, or
  • a referral by a psychiatrist or pediatrician from an eligible service.

At the 1 July 2024 the Medicare rebate for:

  • a telehealth session is $96.65*. For telehealth clients, the gap you need to pay is $88.35.
  • a mobile session is $121.35*. For mobile clients, the gap you need to pay is $88.65.

*Rebates are subject to change by Medicare.

We are equipped to process your Medicare claim after payment is received. Medicare payments are usually paid into your account within 1-3 days. To update your details with Medicare visit Services Australia at https://www.servicesaustralia.gov.au/how-you-update-your-name-date-birth-or-gender-for-medicare?context=60092

Mental Health Plan

  • The first step in receiving the support you need is to get a referral and mental health plan from you treating doctor.
  • A GP can refer you for up to 10 rebated psychology sessions per calendar year.
  • After 6 sessions, a progress report is written by your Psychologist for your referring doctor.
  • This means a mental health treatment plan lets you claim up to 10 sessions each calendar year.
  • You can have more than 10 sessions, however you will pay the full fee without Medicare rebate.

Private health rebates

You are not able to claim a rebate from Medicare and your private health fund at the same time. You must choose which rebate you will claim. You do not need a referral to claim a rebate from your private health fund. Please check with your private health fund for further rebate information.

Clients without a referral

You do not need a referral to make an appointment. Some clients prefer not to involve anyone else. This is fine, it just means you are not eligible for a Medicare rebate, however you may still be eligible for a rebate if you have private health cover.

I'm ready!

If you already have a referral and mental health plan:

  • ask your GP to email them through to peacemakerpsych@bigpond.com, OR
  • scan or take a clear photo of each page and email, THEN
  • email us to request an appointment. Telehealth appointments are available on Monday and Friday. Mobile appointments are available Tuesday and Thursday.
