Peacemaker Psychology strives to deliver a service characterised by compassion, care, and competence.
There is no quality of care or competence without compassion. Compassion is the foundation upon which the other two pillars are built. It requires the ability to recognise suffering and connect with a person's distress in an open, accepting, and non-judgemental way. This connection is what underpins the therapeutic relationship, and in turn quality care and competence.
"Clinical competence is only part of the story when connecting with clients. Authentic
compassion comes from being able to see the world through another's eyes. Lived
experiences help with this, and there is certainly something powerful in having walked in
another's shoes. My personal challenges with mental health have made me a better
psychologist because they allow me to connect in a way I otherwise would not be able to."
Belinda Stocks, Director of Peacemaker Psychology
As the demand for health and wellbeing services increases, more pressure is applied to the quality and continuity of care a service can provide. Peacemaker Psychology prioritises client care over client numbers every time. We want you to be able to get an appointment when you need one, and we want to guarantee continuity of care in that you will see the same person you have developed a relationship with. As we grow, we strive to maintain a balance that ensures the best care possible for the client.
"Balancing practice growth with client care is difficult so it needs to be an explicit priority to be achieved. I have no interest in creating unreasonable waiting lists to turn a profit at the expense of existing clients. My aim is to provide the right service to the right person at the right time...not when I have an appointment 4 months later."
Belinda Stocks, Director of Peacemaker Psychology
Peacemaker Psychology prides itself on evidence-based interventions. Everything we do is carefully considered in light of the theory, research, and practice based evidence. Professional development is not only a service we offer, it is a practice we continually engage in so we can offer the best solutions available.
"The one size fits all approach is easy for the psychologist, but not so great for clients. Doing what you've always done is easy and safe, but it also means your clients are suffering for longer than they have to if a more effective approach has been developed. I have a keen interest in the impact neurobiology has had on our understanding of the brain and body. Interpersonal neurobiology has totally changed the treatment plan for some conditions. Staying current is crucial to competence."
